Japan Day 6

I was Googling around to see what else I could check out and noticed a cluster of museums near the Ueno stop.

I ended up at the Ueno Zoo, though it wasn’t really my thing. Most of the animals seemed sad, and the one panda I briefly saw looked like it just wanted some privacy. I didn’t stay long.

Things improved when I stumbled across the Shitamachi High Calorie Festival. I left and came back later in the evening when there was live music. The bands played a lot of covers of American songs, which I kept running into all over Tokyo. Even the bar manager had a playlist of Japanese artists covering American songs—in English. I was hoping to listen to more Japanese music, but I guess I was unlucky.

Food-wise, the festival definitely lived up to its name. Giant gyoza was my favorite. Most of the food was deep-fried, and while it was tasty, the setup was a little awkward—no seats and very short tables, which made eating a bit of a challenge.

One booth really stood out: they were selling a “Trump Burger” and had Trump bobbleheads on display. It was… unexpected, and somehow very on-brand for a high-calorie street festival.

Still, it was fun enough that I’m planning to go back tomorrow.

Then, naturally, it was off to the bar.

On the way, I learned that Tokyo Comic Con is happening this weekend—which may change tomorrow’s plans entirely.
